How to Play Sea Battle

2 players · a 10×10 sea · 5 ships each

Goal

Sink every ship of your opponent's fleet before they sink yours.

The fleet

Each player has an aircraft carrier (5 squares), a battleship (4), a cruiser (3), a submarine (3) and a destroyer (2).

Laying out

Both players place their ships in secret, at the same time, straight across or down. Ships may not overlap or touch — not even at a corner. Tap a ship, then the sea; tap it again to rotate it, or use Random.

Firing

Take turns calling a square of the enemy's sea. Water ends your turn; a hit lets you fire again. When every square of a ship is hit, it is sunk: its name is announced, it shows on the board, and the water around it is marked, since no ship can be there.

Time

The host may set a time for laying out the fleet and a time for each shot. Out of time, the missing ships are placed at random, or a shot is fired at random for you.

Match

The host chooses a single game or the best of three; who fires first alternates. Matches between accounts count for the Sea Battle rating; with a bot they are practice.
